The Nokia Lumia 900 is the largest model in the Nokia Windows Phone range and is the big brother to the original Nokia Lumia 800. We've spent the last four weeks switching back and forth between the two trying to decide which we prefer. Check out how we've been getting on with our Nokia Lumia 900 versus Nokia Lumia 800 review. When the Nokia Lumia 800 first came out we were amazed by its looks, style and ease of use. The 3.7-inch smartphone with AMOLED and ClearBlack Display looks amazing, especially that slight curve to the screen. Add the fact it's made from Gorilla Glass and you have a smartphone that not only looks good but is also tough as nails! Nokia Lumia 800 review: One week on Meanwhile, the Nokia Lumia 900 takes the same basic design and bigs it up for a larger display experience. It serves up the same highly usable 800 x 480-pixel resolution on its 24-bit colour screen and clocks in with a 4.3-inch display. The main change is that the Lumia 900 comes with a flat glass display. The AMOLED screen is also made from Gorilla Glass and comes with a Nokia ClearBlack Display coating. Read our Nokia Lumia 800 review With the Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900 looking like little and large versions of each other there are a lot of similarities, but the difference in screen size does make for quite a different user experience. We have to admit, we've found the Nokia Lumia 900 a slightly more functional phone to use. This is due to the inclusion of the Windows Phone Tango update that brings with it WiFi Tethering, flip-to-silence as well as a number of other nice little improvements. At the time of writing, Nokia has announced that the Nokia Lumia 800 Tango update is starting to rollout world wide but we're still awaiting for it to hit here in the UK on our device. It's simply a case of patiently waiting and checking frequently to see if it's landed or not! Nokia Lumia 800: Touchscreen action The Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900 share the same tech spec and only the screen size split them apart. This means that you'll both devices respond in the same way and at the same speed, with pages scrolling and loading at the same pace. The one thing we have noticed, though, is that with the larger screen of the Nokia Lumia 900, you do need to be that little more deliberate with your swipes. We've found you need to be more forceful at times with your thumb, as the large screen needs that little more pus Nokia Lumia 800: Flat versus curved screen As we pointed out in our first review of the Nokia Lumia 900 or Nokia Lumia 800, one of things we missed about the Lumia 800 was the curved screen. It's not that it works any differently, it's purely an aesthetic look and feel and the notion that images pop from the screen a little sharper than on the Nokia Lumia 900. That said, with all the recent sunny weather, we have found that the flat screen of the Nokia Lumia 900 does create less reflections outdoors when you're trying to view the screen. Nokia Lumia 800: Image clarity Microsoft announced that Windows Phone 8 will have support for larger screens resolutions than the 800 x 480-pixel resolution found on both the Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900, which bodes well for future devices. Sadly, neither phone will get this update but in truth that isn't a problem as the reality remains that on a day-to-day basis you won't even notice as the big, bold screen of both devices deliver sharp and pleasing images. With summer in full swing here in the UK, well on the odd days at least, the use of Nokia ClearBlack technology on the Nokia Lumia 900 and the Nokia Lumia 800 means you can still read the screen on sunny days. We've been using both devices for reading emails, route finding with the built-in Nokia Maps and even as a viewfinder as both come with a highly usable 8-Megapixel camera and found you don't need to shield the screen as you do with cheaper smartphones. The flat panel of the Nokia Lumia 900 has the slight edge here, as we've found light reflect more off the curved surface of the Lumia 800. Nokia Lumia 800: Pocket size This has been the real clincher for us. As we mentioned in our last review, we're not the kind of person who walks around constantly in need of that screen fix. This means, the right smartphone needs to sit comfortably in the pocket as much as it does in the hand. There is no denying the Nokia Lumia 900 and while it is portable, you're constantly aware that it's sat in your pocket. So much so, we've taken to carrying it on the inside jacket pocket instead of in our jeans. In comparison, the Nokia Lumia 800 is very much at home sitting in the front pocket of jeans or trousers. Now, obviously this is almost certainly subjective but the upshot is that while we really like the Nokia Lumia 900, for the hectic lifestyle we live, the Nokia Lumia 800 is perhaps the better choice. It seems that size does indeed matter in most things and in the battle of Nokia Lumia 900 versus Nokia Lumia 800, the war is looking like being won by the more compact form factor.
